Plant Information

Aglaonema Chinese Evergreen, also known as Aglaonema Commutatum, is a popular and visually appealing houseplant known for its large ovate, variegated foliage.  The leaves are dark green with light green, almost silver, mottled variegation reminiscent of camouflage.   This particular variety of Chinese Evergreen was one of the first to be introduced to the market and has been used as the base for many hybrid aglaonemas.

Care and Maintenance

Light

Provide bright, indirect light for your Aglaonema Legacy White.  It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its variegation will be most pronounced and attractive in moderate to bright indirect light.  Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Maintain a comfortable room temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C).  Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Watering

Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering.  Aglaonema prefer to be kept slightly on the drier side.  Water thoroughly when needed, but ensure that the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent overwatering.  A mix of regular potting soil, perlite, and peat moss or coconut coir works well.

Fertilization

Feed your Aglaonema Legacy White with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).  Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the fall and winter when growth slows down.

Humidity

Aglaonema Legacy White can tolerate average indoor humidity levels.  However, it may benefit from increased humidity.  Misting the plant or using a humidity tray can help.

Pruning

Trim any yellowing or dead leaves to maintain the plant's appearance and encourage new growth.

Potting

Repot your Aglaonema Legacy White when it becomes root-bound or outgrows its current container. Repotting is best done in the spring.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and mealybugs.  If you spot any pests, take action promptly with appropriate treatments.

Rotation

To ensure even growth and avoid the plant leaning towards the light source, rotate it every couple of weeks.

Dusting

Dust can accumulate on the leaves, hindering their ability to absorb light.  Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or give the plant a shower occasionally to keep it clean.

Remember that each plant is unique, so closely monitor your plant and adjust its care based on its response.  By providing the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with a stunning and healthy plant that adds a touch of tropical elegance to your indoor space.
